巴基斯坦艺术与设计 | Aleena Ahmad

In the Dubai villa designed by Aleena Ahmad in the city's Jumeirah Park district, every room holds a story. The home is chic, contemporary and filled with an enviable collection of original artworks.
Ahmad founded her interior design practice, Spaces by Aleena, in 2017. She first established her firm in Lahore, Pakistan, before moving to Dubai and setting up a base in the city nearly four years ago. Now working between the UAE and Pakistan, Spaces by Aleena manages approximately 20 to 25 projects across five different cities. She travels back to Pakistan every six weeks, checking in on her residential projects across the country.

This client, a Pakistani couple from New York, wanted a home rich with sleek interiors, but with intricate touches of home. “The husband, Asim, is originally from Karachi and works in private equity. His wife grew up in New York, and runs several high-end private elementary schools there.” Ahmad would embark on a full renovation of what would become a five-bedroom villa, adding layers that would come together to create a modern, unified interior.

“We did all the fit-outs. Some bathrooms were renovated as well, but it wasn’t a gut renovation. We added a lot of elements,” she says. “We created doorways and added the floating fireplace to create different zones within the space.” The couple wanted a family and entertainment zone, but they also wanted the family area to be formal enough that, if they had a big party, they could open the pool area into the entertainment space and family lounge.

The bulk of the renovation, which started around September 2025, was completed in
December that same year. But Ahmad and the couple would keep tweaking a few elements around the house. “Some pieces took longer - for example, all the curved wooden pieces are by a Pakistani brand called Raka Studio, and those took around three months to arrive. So, it happened in phases, because the clients needed to move in before everything was finished,” she says.
Based in Lahore, Raka Studio was founded by three brothers, and Ahmad sourced numerous pieces from them for this home – including a curved wooden lamp and an entranceway bench, in the studio’s signature curved wood. “All the curved wooden pieces you see, those are by Raka – they learned to bend wood. I have a factory, and I don’t know how to do that,” she says, adding that she was most impressed by a bar cabinet they designed.

A fan of collectible and unique designs, Ahmad counts Line Concept among her favourite brands, incorporating a stainless-steel chair by the pool, and two statement chairs in the living area – one orange and the other with a silver base. Elsewhere, Ahmad experimented with different textiles and materials, adding a pop of colour across the home’s living areas to add vibrancy to the interior’s contemporary base. Textiles like bouclé, linen and some performance fabrics were used across the space. Ahmad also integrated plenty of stainless steel and Carrara marble. “We used Calacatta in the master bedroom for the shelving unit. I like layering materials rather than repeating the same thing over and over,” she says.
