Is the design process similar to the one you use for Desmond & Dempsey collections?
Yes, it begins in chaos and *usually* ends in calmness—it also always starts with an adventure and a scrapbook full of ideas and pictures. Like our collections, though, it is a really intimate process and we try to focus on the feeling rather than the final look. For example, I taped a picture of Verbier (that I had also scribbled all over) next to Joel’s bedside table one day so I didn’t lose it, but he loved it there so we kept it. When we were “almost” finished, I thought one of the walls looked too bland, so I painted a big canvas bright pink to remind me of our day visiting Luis Barragán’s home in Mexico. The plan was to get a new piece to put there, but actually, we both love the pop of pink now.
